Job Summary:
  • A leading university starts with leading facilities. Eastern Washington University is currently seeking a HVAC Technician within our growing maintenance and facilities department. This position reports to the Maintenance Specialist 4 Supervisor of the EMCS/HVAC shop and works from the EMS shop. The primary function of this position is installation/upgrades of building automation and monitoring campus building / room temps and equipment. To include but not limited to the Energy Management System (EMS), HVAC temperature controls, utility meter (water, steam, condensate and electrical) and the electronic network used to communicate with these systems.

Required Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED
* Valid motor vehicle operators license
* Experience in monitoring and adjusting thru manipulating control programs , heat and air conditioning in buildings using automated building monitoring and control systems
* Journey-level standing as refrigeration mechanic or steamfitter as attested by:
Completion of recognized apprenticeship in refrigeration or steamfitter trades or
Full journey-level status in Plumbers and Pipefitters Union.
* Candidate must demonstrate interest, ability and/or experience promoting cultural competency, universal accessibility and/or diversity.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 06A Electrical License
  • Commercial, industrial, or institutional experience a plus.

Job Duties:
% of Time: 75
Responsibility / Duty: * Support construction workforce installations and upgrades of EMS, temperature controls, utility metering and other building automation and monitoring equipment. Assist in the research and preparation of projects, specification and drawings for minor and major capital projects.
* Diagnose equipment and software malfunctions of the facilities automation systems monitoring equipment. Install, repair, replace or upgrade electronic, HVAC and temperature control equipment as necessary. Maintain, repair, test and install EMCS computer equipment, peripherals, communication.
* Monitor and adjust thru manipulating control programs, heat and air conditioning in buildings using automated building monitoring and control systems controlled thru EMCS. Respond to customers with necessary information on time line for installation, upgrade repairs and impact on user areas.
* Assist consultants and commission agents with new systems set up and interfaces with existing equipment. Write deficiency reports on new systems installation for needed corrections. Assist with estimates and feasibility justifications for upgrades and capital replacements.
* Perform computer equipment installation and setup as required. Install and upgrade computers, software, printers, network devices and other peripherals. Troubleshoot and repair computer hardware as necessary to support system.
* The AiM work order system is the accountability tool used within Facilities and Planning. All staff will use AiM as intended to track, request and manage shop operations and individual daily assigned work.

Responsibility / Duty: * Follow departmental standards priorities of repairs and schedule revisions. Complete all departmental paperwork as needed.
* Work in field, as necessary maintaining electronic, electric and pneumatic peripheral equipment when needed to keep systems operating correctly.
* Work with other trades to troubleshoot, upgrade or replace control equipment and equipment that interfaces building and facilities monitoring and automation equipment. Cross train trades shops staff at appropriate level on systems hardware related interfaces with other equipment. Assist with equipment shutdowns and scheduled outages. Coordinate with contractors working on site when shutdowns are required.
* Order and pickup materials from vendors as necessary
* May respond to other temperature control, heating and cooling trouble calls.
* Other related duties as required.

Salary Information: $55,608 - $67,764
Please note that in addition to the salary listed a 4% salary increase will be added effective July 1, 2023.
