Position Summary:
This position will install, maintain, monitor and repair heating and cooling, energy management, pneumatic and digital control systems to ensure appropriate heating, cooling and fresh air ventilation in university buildings and plants.
This is an essential position that will be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.
Duties may include:
- Analyzing, repairing and performing preventive maintenance on HVAC and cooling systems
- Repairing packaged air handlers, AC units, furnaces, combination units, heating units and ventilating fans
- Making repairs and adjustments to associated equipment such as compressors, pumps, ventilating fans, fume hoods, fire dampers, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) controls and refrigeration controls systems
- Performing repairs on integrated building temperature control panels and field level networks
- Performing water treatment on related heating and air conditioning equipment
- Troubleshooting and maintaining low voltage and solid-state control circuits and mechanical control devices for heating, cooling and refrigeration systems
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- None
- Four years working on refrigeration equipment and systems as an HVAC/refrigeration apprentice, or equivalent combination of field training and education on HVAC and refrigeration systems
- Maintaining walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, air conditioners, package chillers and DX cooling systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Secondary Certificates related to the HVAC trade
- Experience with:
- HVAC basic design considerations
- Thermal storage applications
- Energy conservation and heat recovery programs
- Self-powered, electric, pneumatic and digital controls and their end devices
- Thermodynamic tables and charts
- Operator software interface with distributed digital controls
- DDC programming
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
Must be able to:
- Bend, stoop and work in awkward positions for several hours at a time
- Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding and scissor lifts
- Carry, lift or otherwise move items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Work in confined spaces using equipment and appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Work in inclement weather conditions
- Participate in a medical surveillance program and respirator fit test
