The HVAC Mechanic performs troubleshooting, inspection, testing, calibration, overhaul, repair, modification, installation, preventative maintenance, and in some cases fabrication on heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and systems and their associated piping. The position allows the Housing Facilities operation to address routine HVAC issues with in-house staff resources.

Duties and Responsibilities

Applies knowledge of HVAC and related systems/equipment to install, repair, maintain, clean, and service HVAC equipment; performs repair, replacement, and overhaul of equipment such as pumps and compressors; fabricates, installs, and repairs sheet metal duct work, shroud and unit assemblies; performs soldering and/or press fittings on piping and equipment assembly; and performs other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

• Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and equipment
• Ability to evaluate and repair HVAC equipment
• Skilled in use of associated HVAC tools and diagnostic equipment
• Knowledge of systems controls
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics related to HVAC systems, controls, and equipment
• Ability to measure, fabricate, and install sheet metal pertaining to HVAC installation, repair, or replacement

Minimum Qualifications: Requires a high school diploma or GED; Vocational or technical training and two years of experience in HVAC experience with operation or comparable technical field with training in various control systems.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates degree; 3-5 years of experience installing and maintaining HVAC equipment; experience in servicing two and four pipe HVAC systems and equipment; and current HVAC certification/license.
