Purpose of Position

Installs heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment for conformance to safety laws and regulations and approved plans and specifications.

Essential Functions

Installs and repairs refrigeration equipment such as split-systems, rooftop and package systems and ice machines.

Performs scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections.

Installs and replaces motors and pumps requiring lifting, hoisting, and aligning components into position.

Screws, bolts, rivets, welds, and brazes parts to assemble structural and functional components such as motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring harnesses, valves, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, and pipes.

Cuts, threads, and connects pipe to functional components and water or power system of premises.

Starts system, observes operation, reads gauges and instruments, and adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control level of fluid, pressure, and temperature in system.

Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems through Apogee 600 system or pneumatic controls; dismantles malfunctioning systems and tests components; replaces or adjusts defective or worn parts to repair systems.

Insulates and repairs insulation.

Installs wiring to connect components to electric power source.

Applies water treatment chemicals; assists with boiler cleanings.

Must be available on an "On Call" basis.

Overtime may be required.

Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Complies with all State and University policies.

Other duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications

Associate's Degree.

Three years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State.

Occasional travel may be required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment to include: Steel toe or Non-slippery shoes, eye protection, face shield, hard hat, ear protection, disposable respirators or respirator masks, leather or neoprene gloves, neoprene boots, and rubber apron or sleeves.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions; moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
